Collection for Afghan Families in Colorado
Through the month of June, Highlands collected household items for Afghan refugees living in Colorado. These families fled their troubled country for safety in the United States; often with only the clothes on their backs. The need continues to be overwhelming and Highlands is working with the Metropolitan Denver-North Islamic Center to provide needed household items for their new homes.
Thanks to the generosity of our congregation and others from Laramie County and beyond, we will be able to supply a number of families with needed items. During the campaign, 23 Caldero Pots, 23 Twin Blankets, 19 Carafes, and 11 Pressure Cookers were donated. Thank you, everyone!
Highlands will continue to work on behalf of these families. Want to help? Please contact Rev. McDaniel at the email provided above.
Highlands is an inclusive faith community that gathers, shares, and acts on the ideals of Jesus’s teachings.
Highlands is a faith community where God’s love is manifest by lifting up individuals and our local, national, and global communities through inclusive fellowship, progressive Christian study and worship, and service to our neighbors in need.
Faithful to the words of the hymn, “We will work with each other, we will work side by side; and we’ll guard each one’s dignity and save each one’s pride and they will know we are Christians by our love.”
Worship and Fellowship
At Highlands, you'll hear progressive Christianity preached and taught as you enjoy fellowship with people who take the Bible seriously, but not literally, people committed to mission and advocacy for "the least of these, our brothers and sisters."
The Zoom club will resume meeting in September.
The in-person book club continues to meet on Monday mornings at 11:00 a.m. in the Church Sanctuary. This group is currently reading Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time by Marcus Borg.
You may attend either or both book studies. We ask that attendees for the in-person book club have been vaccinated. Please contact Rev. Rodger McDaniel if you have questions about either book club.
